What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a natural form of healthcare which allows your body to heal and function at its optimal potential, without the use of drugs or surgeries. Chiropractors are specially trained in evaluating and working with the nervous system, which holds the main control over all other systems in our bodies (immune system, digestive system, etc). When the nervous system is not functioning at 100%, other areas of the human body may be affected. For some, this may result in migraines, for others lowered immune function and more frequent illness, and for others lack of energy or inability to sleep. These interferences within the nervous system, are what chiropractors refer to as subluxations. Subluxations don't only interfere with the central nervous system, but they also disrupt signals in the nerves that project from the spinal cord. These signals travel from the brain to the spinal cord to the rest of the body, as well as from the body back to the spinal cord and to the brain. Chiropractors are trained to find and remove subluxations with specific chiropractic adjustments.

How do we get subluxations? Subluxations are the result of stressors that we encounter in our day-to-day lives. Stress can come in three main forms: physical stress, chemical stress, and emotional stress. While it would be impossible to avoid these stressors in our lives altogether, the role of chiropractic care in adjusting the spine and nervous system is to increase your body’s ability to adapt to stressors and to be able to function as optimally as possible.

Health is not defined as merely the absence of diseases or symptoms, but rather it is a state of complete physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. Chiropractors are uniquely trained to evaluate a patient’s nervous system which ultimately controls the rest of the human body. This “whole-person” approach to chiropractic care helps patients to achieve overall well-being, and not simply just removing a symptom they may be experiencing. Chiropractors search for the cause as to why you may feel a particular way, rather than just looking at the effect or the symptom.

Chiropractic care does not claim to “cure” any specific illnesses or disease processes. Our bodies have an incredible, innate ability to heal themselves when interferences to the nervous system are removed. However, patients under chiropractic care have seen a wide variety of benefits and relief from many forms of symptoms. Chiropractic care has been shown to help:
